March is Women's History Month, time to celebrate some female mathematicians & scientists!
Women’s History Month is coming up in March and it has taken on a whole new meaning now that I’m raising two daughters. A big question on my mind is: what kind of world are they going to live in when they grow up? At the beginning of my teaching career I had the naïve notion that educators can “save the world.” I’ve since realized that one teacher alone cannot make monumental changes…but maybe each of us can make small differences in our classrooms. So, I had an ulterior motive when I created this Women in Science Project. I’m hoping other educators will be using similar lessons in their classrooms in March and spreading the word that women should not be underestimated. Momentum’s building towards a shift in our attitudes toward women and, hopefully, through conversations that start in our classrooms, my daughters can grow up in a society without limits.
